Greetings from Virginia Beach
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to drop a line to say hello. My name is Ian and have been an avid Linux user for just a short time. (September 2010)
Started out with Mandriva 2010.0, dual booting with Windows XP Pro on a box I put together from spare parts . I call it FrankenstIAN. Since then, I have tried many flavors of Linux. But instead of just wanting an OS, I really got into it to actually "LEARN" linux. I shy away from the big Window Environments like KDE and Gnome. (nothing wrong with them, just not my cup of tea) I found I like the minimalist window managers and OS's.
I now use Arch Linux running OpenBox WM as my main OS but still add other OS's to the mix to check them out. Currently have Bodhi 1.1.0 with the Enlightenment WM installed and I am quite impressed with what Jeff Hoogland and his team have done. I am constantly learning and hope to get to a point where I can start helping others with the knowledge I have received.
Drop a line anytime to say hello. I am quite friendly and easy to get along with I promise.
All the best,
Ian

Jay,
Thanks for the kind welcome. Will definitely be looking around at the many post on here to increase my knowledge.
Actually, funny you mention that, I have a few parts hanging around that I was planning on putting together. Most of the additional hardware I had just went to building a buddy a desktop though unfortantly as hard as I tried, I could not convince him to try Linux."FrankenstIAN", huh? Are you planning on building the "Bride of FrankenstIAN"?
At least I tried.
All the best,
Ian

@rokytnji - Well I do like to think we could get along just fine. If it helps, I am originally from Texas (Outskirts of Houston). Moved away over 20 years ago when I joined the Navy. Would be back there if the wife did not want to stay close to her home in Virginia.

Well, I have no doubt if I had more time, the monster family would DEFINITELY grow.
@MASONTX - Ahhh another Texan!!! Thanks for the welcome and I am glad to be here.
All the best,
Ian

Hi, Ian.
Welcome.
I was stationed at Dam Neck years ago, when it was small and relatively unknown. I liked Virginia Beach, but it got very quiet in the off-season.
Best wishes ... cheers, drlWelcome - get the most out of the forum by reading forum basics and guidelines: click here.
