I'm sick of grubbing around! Back to LILO!
This was sparked off by a thread in another forum - someone complaining that he couldn't find his menu.lst any more. Because of course he'd been "upgraded" to GRUB2. Several people added their complaints that GRUB2 is so insanely complicated. And I suddenly thought "What the heck am I doing with a piece of bloatware like this on my computer?".
Most of you know how important simplicity and comprehensibility are to me. Yet I haven't the faintest idea how GRUB works, let alone GRUB2. It's easy enough to see how LILO works. And it's Crux's preferred bootloader anyway.
So I installed it in Crux, edited up a suitable lilo.conf, ran /sbin/lilo and behold! I can boot both Crux and Debian. It's slower than GRUB2 but I'm going to try the compact option which hopefully should speed things up. You can have a menu interface like GRUB's too and I want to try that out.
I went to the Lilo site and they've actually started development again (since 2010). Obviously they expect a lot of refugees from GRUB2. Well, they have one already!"I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

I've used GRUB, GRUB2, and LILO plenty of times and haven't had any real problems with any of them but I usually end up running whichever bootloader is the default for the distro that I'm running just to keep things more simplified.
Very glad to hear that LILO is being developed again!

Same here, use what ever is default on the install.

I must say, I'm in complete agreement with peoples opinion of GRUB2.
I had a fair grasp on GRUB, and if a little time was taken it was easy enough to see how it was doing what it was doing.
GRUB2, however, just seems like a fubar from the planet Snafu!
Next time I do an install, I'm likely to follow suit with hazel.Jay

Well, I hated grub2 and for a reason.
The Mint 9 box I have used for an year, was being installed grub with, removing grub2 bloat.
I used Salix with LILO and I loved it plain and simple but I'm more familiar with grub so that will remain my choice.
