    The question is, why did you need to compile Firefox from scratch when the prebuilt binaries from mozilla.org will just work on more or less any distro? Secondly I agree with you about tinkering with libraries, but if the ultimate aim is to provide bug fixes and features that are not in the original version, then I am ok with that. One could also argue that Linux itself is just a kernel and what makes it an OS is the bits added by the distro maintainers e.g. installers, distro built packages and apps from third parties. If you just had the kernel without the rest, then its not an OS. So I guess its right to some extent to call Fedora,Ubuntu, Debian,Gentoo etc operating systems.
