That's why the difference between a skunk that has been run over on the highway and a lawyer who has been run over, is that there are skid marks in front of the skunk.

Actually, some of the best lawyer jokes that I've heard were told by lawyers.

Haha most definitely not, she's a proud *nix user so I think it'd go against her general principles to take a career like that

My apologies to your fiance. I have had lawyers in the family before, though not currently, and have friends who are lawyers. Never let an opportunity to tell a joke was more in operation than any animus towards layers.

    My favourite lawyer joke is:

What do you get if you cross the godfather with a lawyer?
A man who makes you an offer you can't understand!

My favourite lawyer quote (from court records) is:

Lawyer: "When he went, had you gone and had she, if she wanted to and were able, for the time being excluding all the restraints on her not to go, gone also, would he have brought you, meaning you and she, with him to the station?"
Other Lawyer: "Objection. That question should be taken out and shot."

Anyway, I'm a member of the Open Rights Group who attempt to protect our digital freedoms. UK Members who care about such things should definitely sign up. What is good is that our current government (unlike the previous one) at least includes groups like these in the discussion.

As an open source advocate, I firmly believe in a strong but proportionate and fair copyright system; after all the GPL and other open source licences wouldn't or rather couldn't exist without it. Such a thing is already in place and protects the actual code in software. Patents are not needed and just stifle innovation for the benefit of those who manage to buy them.

Oh and sorry to break it to all the Texans here on LFo, but the Texan courts seem to be the most software patent friendly anywhere. At least going by the number of patent trolls that bring their lawsuits there according to the UK computer press.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
