Just introducing myself...
Hi!
My name is Andre Gagne, and I am a 46 year old male living in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Canada (a small town just South of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan...).
I have in the past been a professional systems programmer working mostly with the Intel i386+ 32-bit processors. I am currently a recycling technician with Sarcan Recycling.
I recently made the switch from Windows XP to Slackware Linux after trying out a Back Track LiveCD for a few days. I had often heard of Linux in the past, but had never even tried it until that great experience with Back Track 3...; I was quickly "hooked"!
Being entirely fed up with the Windoze scene, Linux was very refreshing. I decided to try and get a distro to dual-boot beside my XP installation on my Dell Inspiron desktop PC (one of 4 PC's I use regularly...). I found a Slackware distro (13.37), and decided on that one without reading any of the online distro reviews or anything. It installed easily with the given instructions, and the Lilo boot-loader worked from the MBR (much to my relief!).
I subsequently installed the Slackware distro on my Toshiba Satellite notebook, with the same great results, and was from then on in love with Linux!!!
I had another, older desktop PC that I had build from spare parts just "kicking around", and so I decided to make that PC a "linux only" installation. Unfortunately, Slackware ran either poorly (or not at all, in one case!) on that machine, so I began looking around for another distro. that WOULD run well on this old "beater". I found CenOS 5.6 Final fit the bill, and it runs very well on this machine!
So, here I am, about three weeks on in my Linux "learning curve", learning a lot every day! I am quite pleased with my progress so far...; actually, the amount of reference material available on the .net on and for Linux is astounding!
Well, I am as of today a member of this forum, and one other which I joined app. two weeks ago called "LinuxQuestions.org".
So, again, Hi to all, and I look forward to getting to know you in the future!
Yours,
Z_Tagr (Andre R. Gagne)
