    Yes it's depressing isn't it? Everything looks like Windows or mac these days, I wish they'd get some gonads.

    You can have something fancier, full 3D, if you install KDE, the desktop environment,, and use it instead of Gnome, what you now have. If you want a bit of an adventure try installing the glorified window manager, Enlightenment DR17. It is still somewhat experimental. Debian & Enlightenment .     Ubuntu was designed to make the transition from windows to linux easy for new linux users. When you get some experience in linux you can then begin to branch out into other distro's that are less like windows if you want.
