Why do linux users help others free of charge.
Here is my general question i would like everyone to input if they want. I am a student in a linux class and here is the ?
People who participate on these forums are not paid to do so, so why do you think they readily provide such detailed support to other Linux users on their own time?
I am looking for your honest opinions.
Thanks,
Ryan
By the way the forum looks good i like the layout.

Hello and welcome!
The following website regarding volunteerism wasn't built with Linux users in mind, but the ideas expressed with regards to helping others is the same:
Fourinfo.com - Volunteerismoz
→ new members/users: read this first | new member faq
→ no private messages requesting computer support - post them on the forums!
→ please use the "report post" button to alert our forum admins to problematic posts rather than responding to them yourself.

Thanks, its a fairly detailed assignment, so rather than make my own assumptions i wanted opinions.
the next was the general mood of people posting. which with the few threads i read already everyone seems to be happy to help,
i know since im new i probaly cant set up a poll for users to vote on.

Generally speaking, we are happy to help.
And since Forums like this one helped me out when I started using Linux, I'm glad to give a little back to those just starting out.
Look at it as paying it forward.
BTW, Welcome aboard!

Well, when you start with the Fedora install, just take your time and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Fedora 15 is the most recent version, but quite a few of us dislike the new Gnome 3 layout. But that's just personal preference
Depending on which version you install, check out this page for some info on getting everything sorted: mjm wired :: ResourcesJay

I can not speak about Linux because I still know next to nothing; but I can speak about sharing knowledge
with those eager to learn! When I went through my machinist apprenticeship at the General Dynamics
shipyard in Quincy Massachusetts the mechanics all wanted to train me because I was extremely eager
to learn everything I could about everything. I'm 67 years old and I can still sharpen a drill bit as good as
any machine. That " Open Source " attitude of Linux users is just wonderful to be around. Good Luck!!Linux registered user # 414321

Welcome!
For me, its seeing someone struggling with the same kinda problem I once had, and remembering the frustration of feeling stuck when I was trying to work my way through it. A leg up from someone farther along sure was helpful for me; I'm just doing the same for the next person.
