Which display manager do you use?

    Hey, guys...

Which display manager (login manager) do you use on your main Linux system?

If you use a DM not listed above, please vote "other" and tell us about it below, along with the reasons why you like it.

If you don't use a DM on your main system, be sure to vote "none", and then tell us why you don't if you wish to share your reasons.

If you aren't sure what a display manager is, or you aren't sure which one you are using, please don't vote until you've done your research and determined which one it is, if any.

Thanks for participating in our poll...

Right now, I'm using gdm as it's the default for Ubuntu 10.04.
For my Slackware VM, though, I boot to a console and just startx.

Depends on my installation. Fedora 15 uses KDM because I only have KDE installed, bug on Scientific Linux and Mint, I use KDM because I have GNOME installed.

A "none" vote here, because I never use display managers.

It just seems easier to login on the command line, then use "startx", perhaps because old habits are often so hard to break.

Slim vote is mine for LXDE, Fluxbox, and Icewm Desktops using a .xinitrc.

I use gnome on most of my computers, but LXDE on my laptop due to limited resources.

GDM or Compiz as a stand alone display manager

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Many years ago, I used XDM and it worked well enough, but it looked rather bland. You can spiffy it up quite a bit with some extra configuration efforts, however.

I moved to using no display manager after a number of different rolling release updates (with Arch Linux) caused problems logging in for myself, or others. Removing the display manager altogether and just using startx on the command line put an end to those types of issues, and I've never looked back.

The display manager, in my opinion, is the more visually appealing way to enter into a system, though!

Slim because it's fast. I used to use xdm on Debian but then an "upgrade" turned it so ugly that I didn't want it on my machine any more. So I switched to slim and I use it on both my systems.

Voted none. Every system I use I login at the command prompt and use startx. Systems I setup with Mint DE for others to use gdm by default (which I don't change). I prefer to login at the command prompt ... prefer to see text rather than splash screens etc.
