    Favorite Search Engine

We ask this question on the forums every now and then, but a person's favorite search engine can change from time to time for various reasons, so we like to renew the question occasionally just to see what our forum members are currently using, or not using.

What is your favorite search engine and why do you like it better than the others?

    Start page

Powered by Google which is sadly still the most effective search engine but minus all the tracking, filtering and general snooping.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

There are more search engines out there than I realized.

A quick search at wikipedia revealed this article listing a couple pages of them, with the search engine listing starting about half way down the page:

Elija, is 'startpage' still the same thing as ixquick?

    https://www.ixquick.com/

If so, is one name official and the other unofficial, or do they go by both names?

I don't know. There is definitely a relationship though. From their "about us" page.

I'm also thinking of having a go with their proxy service [edit]which seems to be as simple as clicking the proxy link on a search result[/edit]

Our of curiosity, I just did a search using each of them and oddly enough, the search results were slightly different. The ixquick engine felt just a hair slower, as well. Not sure why that would be the case with the results or the speed unless they are different in some way.

Google is my favorite, don't like Bing much because of the ads and pop ups, hate IE/MSN.

Been using Bing ever since Microsoft officially launched the service for public use and never looked back. Has a much better image search algo than Google.

Just too bad that MS will never release any native Bing toolbars for other browsers found in Linux. A pity.

I used to do all my searching with Scroogle and liked it very much, but they were breaking all the time whenever Google would make changes on their end:

    https://ssl.scroogle.org/

I might give it another go, though, to see if the breakages are fewer and further between.
