No thanks., It's to Windows for me

I can't believe how difficult it is to do simple mundane tasks in Ubuntu. My system switched to a low screen resolution and all of the allegedly "simple" suggestions I've found appear to require a degree in computer science. In Windows, I right click the screen, click properties, and then slide the resolution slider. In Ubuntu, I have to start messing with "Terminals" or replacing the Kernel. Good grief. How can Ubuntu users possibly think this operating system is ready for prime time? Maybe if you are unemployed and living in your mom's basement you might find time to wade through all this esoterica, but most people just don't have that sort of time.

Twice before I've abandoned an Ubuntu system for stupid problems that are so easy to fix in Windows but appear to be major undertakings in Ubuntu. I'm guessing this system is scrap now also.

No thanks., It's to Windows for me.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

There's plenty of room in the world for Linux, Mac, and Windows users. In my opinion, each computer user should use whatever works best for him/her. Hopefully, you've found a comfortable place for yourself.

Personally I find things to be exactly the opposite; Linux is simple and easy, Windows is awkward and contrary. I guess it boils down to what you are familiar and comfortable with.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Have you tried to ask for help on the Ubuntu forum here? I cannot believe it is that hard to change the screen resolution.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS right now.
To change screen resolution, I click System > Preferences > Monitor.

Now, this works assuming that there is a working video driver installed.
The exact same can be said for Windows.

It's been a while since I last ran Ubuntu, but I was thinking that it had a GUI for changing screen resolutions, so thanks for verifying that. Of course, there could be times when the GUI breaks, or simply doesn't work properly and some command line work might be needed, or called for.

Personally, I prefer the command line so that I have more control because you can't always tell exactly what those darned GUI thingies are doing!

Very true. And while the commands to do so may look a little arcane, it can be done.
I'm sure that it could be done in Windows as well, but I wouldn't know the first thing to look at.

Welcome to the forums DarrylGittins, nice introduction. As mentioned before, you never did try to get help here or your post count would be higher than 0. I'd suggest that you give these forums a chance to help you or just keep enjoying Windows.
Oh and by the way....Ubuntu is only one distro........the last time I checked there were hundreds of distros. I am positive one of them would have worked for you and your system.

I disagree. You cannot be dumb and own a Motorcycle shop. Your customers would have done shot ya full of holes or maimed you for life if you were dumb.

I had screen resolution problems with Ubuntu. It was not the fault of Ubuntu it was the cheap graphics card
in my HP a532x computer. I had to bring a suse 10 resolution file and put it in Ubuntu to resolve that problem.
To each their own though; I'm not spending a fortune for hard drive reformats any more using Linux so I'm
    quite happy!!
