I'm running a different version of Ubuntu, but it should be the same...
Your Trash file is in a hidden folder. Typically, the path would be .local/share/Trash, found in your home folder.
If you're opening it up in Nautilus, you can show your hidden files with Ctrl+h.Jay

You should be able to delete them by right clicking on the waste basket and selecting empty. Double clicking the waste basket should show the files held in it. In LMDE my waste basket is found by opening the file manager in my home directory, pressing Ctrl + h and navigating to .local/share/Trash/files

You can get to it in a terminal if you choose.
Then just ls to see what you have in there.Code:cd .local/share/Trash/files

It just occurred to me from the title that these might be root user's files. In such a case the directory should be /root/.local/share/Trash although you will need root permissions to see them.

I tried using gksudo nautilus to find the file before posting this thread. Not only are there opera and chrome files in there but there are also files for portable device things my computer is not supposed to be supplied with.
