I've always been fascinated by the option of linux and now i've got an old pc lying around i just couldnt leave it unhandled without Linux (ubuntu 11.04 i hope) to get it back alive again.
-- unfortunatly the installation gives weird errors i cant even find solutions for on the www or anywhere on the forums. --
More about that later in a new forum thread..
Yours Sincerely, Alienus

Welcome Alienus,
Before you make a new thread... post the spec of this old machine and people can give you a better idea of what distro to go for.

I've used an existing "cant install Ubuntu" thread. (lets try to minimize the amount of new threads when possible right?)
The specs of the machine are hard to know given the fact that i got the 'old' pc from someone so the HDD was already formatted without a booting system.
(i dont know how to get the full specs out of the bios or commandlines without a proper running OS), though i can get the basics from the bios.
I'm looking forward to the linux experience and even on the live cd the fast reactions of linux ubuntu 11.04 surprised me, compared to the (for windows) not that slow windows 7 64bit i'm used to.
<STRIKE>the thread i'm using can be found</STRIKE>] (probably moderated)
A new thread on the next subpage: /forum/ubuntu-linux/183073-cant-install-ubuntu-11-04-32bit.html (i cant post url's yet, hence this route)Last edited by Alienus; 09-27-2011 at 07:45 PM. Reason: the linked forum changed place and more error code information was noted.

Hello and welcome!

The thread that you posted to was over 14 months old so I moved your post and turned it into a thread that is your very own.
Hope you'll have lots of fun running Linux.oz

Hello, Alienus
To prevent any confusion, I'm going to lock this thread because it's too similar to your help request thread found in the Ubuntu forum and it's causing replies to be posted here instead of there. Note that I've moved the referenced replies to your other thread.
Don't hesitate to start new threads if you should have additional issues and need help.oz
