My opinion for promoting growth on a forum:
Provide an atmosphere that is not overly intimidating to new Linux uers
Enlist friendly, knowledgeable members, ready and willing to help others
Maintain a webserver that serves up bug free forum pages, fast and smoothly
Display spam free content only, with properly placed but limited advertising
Strive to maintain very high rankings with the most popular search engines
Lots of word-of-mouth advertising by current members/users always helps
Of course it's far easier to write out a recipe for success than it is to actually achieve it!

A couple of people I know have found this site and then complained about the advertising and then gone somewhere else. I know we can do nothing about that but if anti-social me knows a couple of people who have said that, how many people are there who react in the same way? I know MAS Media are a business but surely getting rid of some of the more intrusive ads, particularly the ones that break the site can only be good for business in the medium to long term?
