New too, almost
Hi, My name is Rick (truth), and I'm from Nova Scotia, as in USR ID
I'm not quite a newby, but very close. I gave Ubuntu a try a year or so ago, it wasn't quite my cup of tea, then a little later I installed Mint 9 dual boot on a new netbook, and so far I am very impressed although I haven't put a lot of time into it.
So far I've had few problem I even got wireless to work, and I see a few people having problems with that. it works with my printer external drives, and wireless keyboard. basicaly all that's left is to get my emails set up in thunder bird.
I find it is becomming more of a necessity to do so now as my hate of the "Bill" grows each day. My regular computers' C partition is nearly full of windows updates, and no easy way to extend that partition (that I know of) I certainly don't want to restore it to factory, waste of time that would be anyway. Why they can't give you a lousy disk is beyond me. So I want to say good by to him and windows fore ever the greedy ..curse word.
For the time being I would like to remain dual booted mainly for one particular old program I like for making pictures, banners, and the like. Then again as soon as I become more comfortable with GIMP I most likely won't even need that. I have already used it to make something I was unable to do with the other program. Too bad familiarity is comfortable.
I will no doubt have a question or two. Like I didn't make a home partition during the install, and wish I had. That's how I got here today. I actually though I was already a member here but it was the mint specific forum.
PS I like nixipixel's videos.
So much to learn, and so little time, so on with it, and sorry for running on at the mouth. Glad to be here, so far loving mint.

Hey there Rick,
I had the same dependence as you - reliance on a Windows app - Photoshop in my case. But I finally one day went Cold Turkey - do it in Gimp or don't do it at all. I spent basically a weekend figuring out about half the stuff I wanted to be able to do and couldn't do the rest. But I learned to live without those other things. Time passed, and since then, I've forgotten whatever it was that I could do only in Photoshop that I apparently couldn't live without...
Anyway, welcome to Linux and come back for help or to share!
