    Minix is described as a unix like system, and is available at distrowatch.com along with various bsd os's and solaris based os's.

    I'd suggest you try Solaris. It is a true Unix system and available free for personal use from Oracle. I run it in a VM on my Linux system in order to do kernel module development.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
