I'm not a huge fan of old time sailor movies or pirate movies hence the delay in me getting around to watching it. Still, the ships they used in the movie were very impressive and it does give you a pretty good feel for what it must have been like to be aboard one of them back in those days (May 1805). The firing cannon sounds were recorded using real cannons, so hang onto your seat. The few scenes on land in the movie were filmed on the Galapagos Islands making for some nice scenery.

Since we are on the topic of old-time sailor movies, who here besides me has seen the Horatio Hornblower series broadcast a few years ago (1998-2003), with "Mr. Fantastic" Ioan Gruffudd in the lead role? That was really great, I thought! I even bought the entire series on DVD, I liked it so much!

I think I had a bootleg copy of that, until the fan failed on one of my arrays and I lost a couple TB of video...

Just finished watching Hot Fuzz... a British action/comedy film from 2007 written by and starring Simon Pegg. It's not great, but the final 20 minutes or so made it worth watching, and the soundtrack really gives your speakers and subwoofer a heavy duty workout.

I liked Hot Fuzz. I missed the first 20 minutes or so, but it was pretty enjoyable.

It was very good, I remember watching it the first time around. You may also like the Sharpe series.

Most of you have probably already seen it, but Live Free or Die Hard from 2007 is a pretty good shoot'em up for those of you that like heavy non-stop action:

...and there are plenty of computer references made in the movie for anyone here who might happen to be a computer geek!

I thought the Sharpe series was brilliant! I have them all as well.
To paraphrase (misquote) Wellington to Sharpe (then a sergeant) after Sharpe saved his life in episode 1, "Sharpe, you did me a damned good favor here. Well, I'm going to do you a damned bad one, and make you an officer!".

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing The Artist now that it has won a number of top awards. It's a silent film, done in black & white, and in the 4:3 aspect ratio. This one didn't appeal to me at all until after I watched a few clips from the movie. Now, I've gotta admit that it looks different and interesting.
On the other hand, there have been a number of "Best Motion Picture of the Year" winners in the past that I ended up not liking at all, but we'll see how it goes with this one.
