Agreed, Tim Roth is gifted. I was bummed to learn that his TV show, Lie To Me, got cancelled.

I just spent almost 5 hours watching Red Cliff (parts 1 and 2) and while it was a good movie, I wouldn't give it quite the high score that it has received on IMDB.com:

    Red Cliff (2008) - IMDb

Red Cliff II (2009) - IMDb

Recommended, but I'd personally give it more like a 6.5 out of 10 score.

    Orphan

    Just finished watching Orphan:

Those of you that like mystery/thriller type movies might enjoy this one. Certainly worth at least a rental or borrow from a friend.

Another one very much worth the time spent watching (and good for pretty much any age group) would be We Bought a Zoo, with Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson:

That was a great family flick, yeah. and bonus points for being based on a true story.

one reason i'll never forget this movie: i had to do the dishes for a week b/c I bet my wife that wasn't Matt Damon, when I first saw the trailers...bah.

I watched Knight and Day last nite - another movie in the "pleasantly surprised" department, for me. It has really interesting music throughout and the dialog is not too obvious and is even funny at points. The action is great; there are some bits that are too obviously CGI for me, but the non-CGI stuff is great. In general, the plot is getting a bit tiresome, but its not horrible.

Cruise is very much his usually self; ego-maniacal, smarmy, engaging and entertaining. As an individual, he is quite bizarre, but his movies are usually (or maybe more often than not) worth the price of admission (or at least rental). You may want rent before you buy, on this one, but if you like action and Cruise, you'll like it.

Nod to Cameron, she is aging well.

Reporting Live from the FantasyFilmFest in Munich.
Just saw the opening movie 'Sightseers' and it is freaking awesome.
A heartwarming lovestory about a couple traveling across the countryside.
With just an occasional murder here and there. :P

    Zodiac

Zodiac is a great mystery/thriller movie:

The story, cast, and acting are all superb, and this film is certainly worth a purchase if you like detective movies.

Last night, I watched the 1974 film, Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway:

    Chinatown (1974) - IMDb

They've recently released it on blu-ray so I figured it was time to watch it once again. The video on this release is really nice, and the audio track isn't bad either, although it's nothing quite like the audio tracks on newer films coming out these days.

It's a great film that I'd highly recommend for those who like detective stories!

Tired of Cliché and one dimensional heros and bad guys?

Just saw the italian movie A.C.A.B.: All Cops Are Bastards (2012) - IMDb
As a citizen, one certainly benefits from the safety provided by a riot police force on e.g. soccer events.
But this movie shows how the policemen form a brotherhood.
They do that for self-protection, and if you witness their job it is understandable why.
On the other hand, they are also driven by personal problems and they make mistakes.

A movie about motivation, action/reaction and a very hard job.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
