My father was a TV repairman, back when TVs could actually be fixed, and often were. I remember laughing at him, behind his back, when his arms were too short and he would sometimes put the schematic diagrams on the floor to try to read the tiny print. About 35 years later I started to understand his problems. He finally got glasses, and so did I. I'm just glad my vision improved and I don't often need them now. I still have no idea why.

Reminds me of my mother sgosnell. If she couldn't find her glasses, she would lay the paper on the floor and stand up to read it.

Yeah! And I just started a new job this week as Senior Systems Engineer at Nokia! I guess that age and treachery does trump youth and enthusiasm!

Anyways, you folks are all awesome! This is one of my favorite sites, and I am just happy to be around to help out. I hope you all have a GREAT New Year!

BTW, the servers that process the mobile browser requests here are all Linux (RHEL) systems. We are expanding our user base from 5M to 50M users for this mobile browser in the coming year. My work will be in performance engineering, so you can see that we have some real challenges ahead! Right now I am just starting to get a handle on the architecture of the system, and next week will start modeling it so we can find choke points and weaknesses more easily. My first project is to build a new load generation tool that can be tuned for different usage patterns, as well as to analyze what the real-world usage patterns are. They strapped the rocket-powered roller skates on my feet Tuesday, pushed me down the hill on Wednesday, and I have been adsorbing everything since then...

Ok. As far as a quick search goes, it dates back to the ancient Greeks...

Speaking of eye sights.
I had a cataract when I was in sixth grade. Got hit in my right eye with something and this caused my right eye to not see anything. After 37 years of blindness. Someone offered to pay for me to get a medical check-up from an eye specialist. I went through a 10 minute surgery. I had a new lens implanted and I am able to see again in my right eye. No clear thought but I can see.
Reading glasses? I use 200.
