When I lived in Hawaii, they would put rice in the chilli. I still eat it that way on occasion.

I'm a little surprised... there has been no mention of an old classic.

    Grilled cheese and tomato soup.

The wife and I have that one for lunch quite often. She is more into thinking of certain foods as comfort items than I am and always has been.

Me... I'm getting great comfort from my first cup of morning coffee as I type this! YUMMY

Well, if we are tossing drinks out there too....add Coke a Cola to the list. That's my "Coffee".

For me, I think it's pinto beans and cornbread. We ate that more often than anything when I was a kid. Some raw onion on the side, and vinegar off pickled peppers added in, and it's as good as anything else I've had.

Once in a while, I like a big bowl of soup beans. And the best way to go at it is with some cornbread and a bit of fresh onion.
I like to splash in a bit of Tabasco.
