Philosophy of the GNU Project - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)Free software is simply software that respects our freedom — our freedom to learn and understand the software we are using. Free software is designed to free the user from restrictions put in place by proprietary software, and so using free software lets you join a global community of people who are making the political and ethical choice assertion of our rights to learn and to share what we learn with others.

We maintain this free software definition to show clearly what must be true about a particular software program for it to be considered free softwareOpen Source?
Another group has started using the term “open source” to mean something close (but not identical) to “free software”. We prefer the term “free software” because, once you have heard that it refers to freedom rather than price, it calls to mind freedom. The word “open” never refers to freedom.Last edited by jonyo; 02-07-2012 at 01:17 AM.

I no longer support the other site either, but for different reasons. This is a pretty quiet forum - generally the only trouble you'll find here is that which you bring with you.

i'll decide for myself what this site is about, might you have something to say on topic?
What is Free Software?
“Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech”, not as in “free beer”.
