    Thinstation = CRUX + IceWM!

    I was checking out DistroWatch when I came across Thinstation, a CRUX based thin client with IceWM, a favourite combo I've used for many years! This one, I have to check out. I will report back with my impressions.

    A very interesting distro and not at all like the CRUX I know, not that that is necessarily a bad thing. This distro starts with an install live CD and you build from there. The install is straight forward and easy to understand, though non-Linux users may have a more difficult time of it. There is no ports system I can detect nor prt-get for source package management. I'm not sure how, or even if you can install other packages but the base install is all done with git. It took a little massaging to get it up and running in a virtual machine but here it is:

    I'll tinker with it a bit to see what's what and report back if anyone is following.

    Looking at their packages index, it seems like they use tarballs. Though nothing seems to have been added yet for this version.
    Even then, the picking looked a little slim. But if they're just using .tar.gz files, it should be a fairly straight-forward process.

    The keymap is all screwed up. I know I chose the correct one during installation but can't navigate as forward slash comes out as an exclamation point and several letters on the left side are mixed up. I may re-install again to see but for now, it looks like I'm dead in the water as far as exploration goes...
