A Gnome Desktop Users Question!
I admit being addicted to the Gnome desktop but I know that there are many LF members who have used it on a lot of different distros I am seeking a Gnome desktop on a DVD because downloading a distro using dial-up is not going to happen. Any suggestions??

You might like Parsix:
DistroWatch.com: Parsix GNU/Linux
It's based on Debian and offers a liveDVD version with Gnome as the desktop environment.
Edit: not certain, but I think some versions of Linux Mint offer a liveDVD with a Gnome environment as well.Last edited by oz; 08-15-2012 at 07:26 PM.

Elija, I have never seen a Gnome 3 desktop. I have an old HP a532x computer that will probably not install the latest DVD's. Oh, for a powerball jackpot to buy a new computer!!

Alternatively you could run Debian which uses GNOME2, aside from the next release after wheezy i think which is xfce. Or you could use any Red Hat Clone just about they all run GNOME2 as there primary and is fully supported till some ridiculous time in the future (2020 or something)

Mate is a good choice. I have switched 2 of my 3 desktop machines to it and have been very pleased. More stable and less frustration than the new 12.04 *buntu's.

The " Silver Lining " of my freezing up my old hard drive is that I do not want to use Ubuntu anymore. Ubuntu 8.04 served me well over the years but it became a chain around my neck keeping me from trying anything else.

A lot of people must be feeling the same way Lucky. I note that on distrowatch, that if you look at the 7 day, 30 day, or 3 month statistics, the once mighty Ubuntu has fallen to 3 rd place, with Mageia moving up.
