CRUX 2.8 has been released...
Just a quick alert for any CRUX users, or for anyone that might want to give CRUX a spin:
CRUX | Main / ReleaseNotes2-8
I don't know if I'll get around to trying this release or not, but hope to do so.
You can download it here:

oz, as I said in my now deleted thread, I'm tempted to nuke and pave Mint and get back to this nitro burning distro. I may install it to a separate drive and tinker with it when I can find some spare time which I seem to have less of every day.

There you go, that's what I need to do, right there!
CRUX definitely takes some time to get installed and configured properly when you don't use it regularly, so installing it on its own drive during any spare time should work out quite well. I might get started on that this weekend...

Got it. Took less than three minutes to download.

Argh... I just went over and took a look at the downloads and it appears that they failed to create a 64-bit version once again, but perhaps I didn't look close enough and missed it. I do believe 64-bit processors are here to stay for at least a while so wish they would provide 32-bit and 64-bit options on their downloads page.

To my understanding, CRUX will be all 64 bit after 2.8. 64 has got to be available somewhere on this release. I'll dig around.

Thanks for digging that up, Dan!

It appears that the subject of 64-bit versions has been under discussion in the CRUX bug tracker for some time now:
FS#280 : CRUX lacks 64bit binaries and supported ports.
I might play around with it a bit this coming weekend. If I install CRUX again, mine will be a minimal openbox only setup with just those added packages that I want, or need, because I hate those long compile times for some of the full-blown DEs.oz

Minimal is the way to go! I'll have OpenBox of course but will also install my old standby, IceWM. My command line skills have gone to hell since I switched to Mint.

I'm guessing you must have downloaded the 32-bit version because it took me nearly 30 minutes to download the 64-bit version due to that particular server being so slow. It could be because so many people are rushing to download 64-bit CRUX, but somehow I doubt that was the case.

Either way, my copy is now burned to disk and I hope to get it installed this weekend if I can find the spare time.oz
