FreeBSD. However the first serious linux distro I used was openSuSe 11 I dropped it because honestly i didn't like the logo. So now i just use debian for productivity while flirting with fedora, centos, linux mint, free bsd, slack, arch, with my eye on LFS .

I started with Fedora on the stick, then Ubuntu, Mint, DSL, Puppy, and a few others. But I never really got into it. For an old Windows user that world was too alien for me.

Then I found Zorin. With that I can deal. I spend a lot of time on my Zorin now which I run in VMware Player from an external disk. Thus it is always available and I can carry it with me to my other systems.

I don't think that I will become a 100% convert since I use also 2 Vista systems, 4 Windowds 7 systems and one Windows 8 system - plus my Android Tablet. And there are many things I do in Windows for which I have not yet found appropriate programs in Zorin - e.g. screen capture with a 150% DPI. This I need a lot for my tutorials.

I actually started with backtrack, back in my hacking days. I then tried ubuntu 11.04, then linux mint. I thought it was true love when I used fedora. Then I got RHEL desktop, haven't switched ever since. I love the stability.

What year? That should pretty well nail it, or at least bring it down to a list of 2:

    Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog)
    Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog)
    Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger)
    Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake)
    Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft)
Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) <<--- Me! in July 2007
    Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)
    Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron)
    Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex)
    Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)
    Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)
    Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx)
    Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat)
    Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal)
    Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)
    Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin)
    Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal)
Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) <<--- probably not this one

1st Linux was Caldera Open Linux 1.3, but I didn't take Linux seriously until I used Knoppix 3.something to access a downed Windows system. Freespire 1 was the 1st Distro I installed for regular use.

I've handed out a few Knoppix discs. Mostly as a demo type of thing, but once so a friend could get some important documents from a borked PC before re-installing. IMHO, Knoppix rocks!

Mandrake 8.2. I think that was around 2002. First DE was KDE. Quickly moved on to IceWM which is still what I run under Linux Mint today.
