How to report child porn if you come across it by accident

I read today that around 4% of Internet users have stumbled across child pornography by accident. Typically they ignore it and try to forget it, as they don't know who to report it too. Most of these sites are abroad, after all.

Well, there is an organisation you can turn to. It's called the Internet Watch Foundation and their site is www.iwf.org.uk. They have contacts with law enforcement agencies all over the world, so if you report the offending site to them, they can arrange to have it closed down.

And that is a very good thing.

Personally, what's more fun and no where near as safe is to use those opportunities to practice your 1337 hax0r skillz. > : )

Vandalization is bad; unless they deserve it!

Please understand: I am not advocating that anyone do this. It is a really good way to peeve off people who it is not necessarily a good idea to peeve off.

On the other hand you can really ruin their day in a lot of ways that I probably shouldn't mention here!

Yeah, but your problem is that people like that are probably computer literate or are colluding with others that are, so you are probably putting yourself at risk of either being a scapegoat for their activities or just under constant harrassment/ threatened by them.

I say that as they are unlikely going to be using a common website hosting company that likely monitors for that sort of activity, unless they are just stupid. Which only leaves hosting your own website.

Which is why I specifically said and will reiterate: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

    But, it is fun!

What can I say? I still have that little mischievous streak in me. It is fun to drop a pack of lady fingers in to a coffee can. But, I won't do it at 3am because the guy next door has to get up and go to work.

I have no desire to foul up grandma's pension. And if you do that kind of thing not only will the FBI or whoever eventually catch up to you but you should be covered in honey and staked to an ant hill.

However, some times it is fun to tear stuff up.

And the only person who cares if you tear up some scumbag's stuff is the scumbag. Now should YOU go around poking scumbags in the eye? Not necessarily; but I think it's fun and am willing to accept the risks.

I haven't had anybody catch up to me yet. Key word being yet.

Also realize that on one set of hardware I have about 75 different computers with a self contained drag and drop virtual newtwork configurable in thousands of way and spiffy stuff like drag and drop virtual jupiter and cisco routers and tons and tons and tons of other fun stuff.

In other words shields go up and battle stations are alerted before I play with that kind of stuff.

And you're right: Legit hosts won't have them. So they usually plant the stuff on somebody else through a back door. If it's an institution I tell them to zip their fly. If it's grandma's system I do my best to flush the toilet and close the door because 9x out of 10 even a forensic examination of the hardware won't lead anywhere.

But, if they're dumb enough to run their own hardware well at next boot they'll be running the BIOS I extracted from a Tandy 1000! > : )

Just another way to create problems for those sites will be - may be writing a bot or something to repeatedly 'click' on their google-ads page. Obviously , google will detect these fake clicks and ban them - Thus preventing some source of revenue !
