    Fascinating! I hadn't actually heard of some of those. And I always thought "pound sign" referred to the fact that on some keyboards, the hash and pound sterling signs are on the same key.

    #2, the '#' when combined with the '!' is called "shebang" while the '!' is often called "bang" (from printing).
