    hello and welcome!

are you trying to start a nerd war?

Linux in general is great for web development. you want to be sure that your Linux distro has all components of the basic LAMP stack:

    Linux (duh)
Apache (or other webserver, like the nimble nginx)
MySQL (soon to be supplanted by MariaDB - or use your own database)
P (perl, python, php, etc. - lang to serve your CGI pages)

and yeah, pretty much all distros either come with those last 3 by default, or are a command away (yum install blah, apt-get install blah, etc.).

so what you really want IMHO is a distro that is solid, has
been around for a while, and is easy to get help on. to that end, i'd recommend:

    Fedora
    CentOS
    Debian
    Ubuntu

any of those would be fine.

If you are already familiar with Linux, just use whatever distribution that you are familiar with. Personally I use openSUSE as my work horse, but for servers I tend to go with CentOS or Scientific Linux (so RHEL based), Debian and to a minor extent Ubuntu.
