Agreed. Hazel, are you going to distribute the book under a Creative Commons license, or what? Just curious.

I hadn't thought. Creative Commons seems quite appropriate. But preparing a book for publication is a dreadful grind (I know; I've done it before) so I'm deliberately not looking so far forward. Anyway, here's chapter 3.

Here is chapter 5. I'm not so happy with the tone of this chapter; it reads a bit more like like a conventional introduction to Linux and I was trying to get away from that.

I'm just in the process of catching up with my reading. I have now done chapters 3 and 4. Again they are very well written.

In the section on viruses, is it worth mentioning that running a virus scanner is a good idea if you share files with Windows users who are not on the same network, such as via email or ftp? Linux is immune to Windows malware but can pass it on and that is the only reason that I run ClamAV on my boxes.

Perhaps your best chapter so far Hazel. You might want to move it to ch 1, as it answers the "What distro is best" question.

Very nice, one thing that leapt out is the reference to "Aleksandr Orlov" People in countries other than the UK, or indeed people reading this a few years down the line will not know who or what our much-loved meerkat could be
