Of course. It's why we're here. Which distribution have you chosen?

Ah, Penguin of trust I adore Penguins.. Thank you first of all for repsonding.
I hope this does not sound like a childish request; but here goes nothing.
What I am looking for is a way to play windows games (eg: Alawar, Big fish) I use these games as a way to wind down.
So that is my question of the day!
PS you are responding to a person who basically is a computer novice
So thank you for your time and response

    Well Just googled/researched Alawar

It's a bit out of my league as I don't use Windows games or WINE in Linux.

Supported software - PlayOnLinux - Run your Windows applications on Linux easily!

I don't see Big Fish or Alawar on Play On Linux listing. That does not mean it can't be done

    https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManag...sion&iId=22243

WineHQ Forums ? View topic - General Alawar games issue

It does not look good for a novice Linux user though. My advice. Start a new thread in Newbie

Title it " Big Fish & Alawar install instructions for a novice linux user"

    A. Give computer make and model number plus any specs you know about the computer. You will not be able to post links till a certain thread count is reached.
Posts in the Coffee lounge do not count for bring up your thread count. Hence my recommendation for starting a new thread.

    B. State what Linux you installed and are using. Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, whatever.

    C. What Desktop. Gnome, KDE, XFCE,Mate, whatever.

    D. Be patient and understanding as we are all volunteers here giving our free time out of brother hood.

I am a crude, rude, tattooed, linux using, outlaw biker. So I am a bit hard to take at times. But my heart is in the right place.
So if I hurt your feelers. I really don't mean to. I just aint perfect is all.

Any ways. Gaming is not my strong suit. With a new thread. Maybe some other member who is a gamer will home in on your thread and
know exactly what you should do to get both working in WINE

Lastly. Lose your Windows way of thinking. Learning linux is like learning Spanish. You speak a language. Just differently is all.
Don't download willy nilly to install stuff in Linux. Not like Windows.

    Code:
    $ apt-cache policy wine
    wine:
      Installed: (none)
      Candidate: 1.4.1-0ubuntu1
      Version table:
         1.4.1-0ubuntu1 0
            500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/universe amd64 Package
We have a package manager instead for installing certain things needed in making things work in Linux.
Just have fun, and, Happy Trailz, Rok

    Code:
    harry@biker ~ $ sudo apt-get -s install wine

You may think you are rude and crude. But with all the info and research you did for me makes me not.
I have veins of mercury, so my feelings do not get hurt quite so easily.
So again I thank-you for all your do diligence and if I get this thing going I will have you to thank.

I'm another one who doesn't really play games, unless you count a slightly unhealthy obsession with Dungeon Crawl but it's more frustrating than relaxing so I'm unlikely to be much help with this.

I did a quick Google and didn't find anything too different to roky. It's possible that there will be native Linux games that you can run instead.

    What do we want?
    Time machines!

    When do we want 'em?
    Doesn't really matter does it!?

Welcome Dragonlass! I may not be an expert like most of the people here but, if I can help, I will

Things are getting weird we got a newbie who's a guitar playing midget secret agent who lives with the loch ness monster and now a Dragon Lass. I think I better start arming myself before logging in.
