    wow your right is does kinda sound like a penguin crying. i think my windows partion is kinda having a fight with it. now why cant my windows partion pick on someone his own size just cos he is 10 gb bigger.

    Open it, then search for mice and other assorted animals which might screech. (e.g. a harpy). ;)

    Seriously, I blame the harddisk, but that is only a guess. I'd open it and then power it on; You can easily hear which component is making screeching noises. If its the harddisk, you should replace it; HDD screeching noises are a common sign of soon-coming HDD death,

    Used to get some pretty weird grinding noises from my old PC. Hitting it, i discovered, caused it to stop. It wasn't until years later i discovered that it was the fan, no doubt clogged and choking its protest.

    Ya that's the European version that comes without Media Player.

    I have the same problem if I leave the computer off fpr to long, a good kick does the trick;
