I started late last year but really my first encounter was abt three years ago when I tried to instal Suse 6.3 on an old PC. The install failed so I was never able to use it.

The first one I installed was FC1 which I was impressed by but it didn't really suit my old P11 PC.

I then installed Mandrake which was an easy install and worked well and still works well.

Then Xandros, which was a pice of pi** to install: I had a rabbit and she could have installed it: it made installing Windows look difficult. I still use Xandros.

Now I have installed Mepis which went badly at first, a real comedy of errors, but after all was properly ready for it the install was easy.

I'm like a child in a sweet shop with Linux. I am still full of amazement that I can get an operating system that's free and that includes all the apps I cld possibly want with it when Microsoft is generousely offering in the Asian market a really cut down (aka crippled) version of Windows and charging for it. What a generous bunch they are.

I first started with Red Hat 6 and then SUSE 6 (I think?) on antiquated hardware for the times. It took me days to get any kind of network card detected (10 Base-T when everyone was on 100 Base-T) and was impossible to set up a server of any kind.

But these days, I have servers set up and firewalled wihin a few hours. It sure has come a long way.

    Viva Linux!

I first tried a copy of Maximum Linux some time in 2000. I could not get things to work just right so went back to windows. Only about two months ago . . realy frustrated with XP I tried SuSE 9.1 personal. Its working great but I plan to build an AND64 system so I am getting 9.2.

My first encounter with linux was about 9 months ago, I installed redhat 9 on my desktop box, but I ended up going back to winxp since then i'ev being going back and forward between windows and linux. But now I think I'll stay with linux, windows doesnt feel natural anymore, windows feels like a cartoon with the help bubbles and securtiy centre that just won't go away!!!

I started messing with *nix about 3-4 years ago
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
