I usually keep 4 virtual desktops around, but they aren't statically assigned to different purposes. Sometimes Firefox is in my way when developing, sometimes not. Same thing with terminals (usually distributed all over the place), file managers and XBill.

CopperTop: That's a strange site behind that lsthemes link, it wants me to go to "South Beach Hotels". The funny thing with it is that they obviously don't check what you provide them with the url's "domainname" field. Probably, they never heard of "Never trust user input data".

    2 desktops.

One to show the stuff I don't mind my parents seeing.
One to hide the stuff I don't want them to see (i'm paranoid)

hahaha I've used them for that before

I use 4, no specific purposes, but I normally put stuff that's gonna be running a while (emerge for instance) on the last desktops and use desktop #1 for doing more varied things, so for me the other desktops are more like docks or something

I usually only use one. I don't really have a problem with a seriously cluttered desktop. The only time that I run two desktops at once is when I feel like running gnome in a window inside of enlightenment, and then maybe entrance in a window in that window

Most of the time no more than 3. The 4th and 5th would not be in GUI.

I use 4, most of the time. One with my web browser, one with my GAIM buddy list and XMMS, one with Eclipse, and one just for miscellaneous file manipulation and console acrobatics.

I also have separate backgrounds for each desktop. It makes it easier for me to tell where I'm at.

how many I use now? that'd be 1 (since I yet only got one screen) but I sort of multiplex between 2 - 8 virtual desktops, usually, one for development (occasionally 2-3 if I'm really high on coffee), one or two for surfing, somedays one for the terminal I laught ut2k4, and yet I still got a few windows sticked on all dekstops, mainly gkrellm, xchat, and xmms...
Also, some times I sort of "swapp out" some windows I'm not using to different desktops - really handy actually

Two usually: I only use more when impressing Windows users with Linux.
