At least he's not allowed to be "Sir Bill Gates" because he's not British. He just gets to put KBE after his name "Knight Commander of the British Empire".
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.

The U.S. Constitution prohibits US Citizens from receiving titles of nobility, so even if Gates' knighthood wasn't just on paper (which it is), he couldn't accept it anyway unless he expatriated himself and became a citizen of the UK.

As an interesting side note, aliens wishing to become U.S. citizens cannot carry their titles with them, so if for instance the Queen of England decided to jump ship and become a US Citizen, she'd have to renounce her crown. Not that I think she would, but it's an interesting clause nonetheless.

Before you go starting another war with Britain, let's put this into perspective (which if you read the entire thread you'd pick up on):

1.The title is honorary only. Gates is American and cannot benefit from it at all.
2.The Queen hasn't run Britain for decades. Parliament does.
3.Titles of nobility have also been given by the Queen to people like U2's Bono, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Elton John. The title means very little even to those who are rightful British citizens.

Wait, is that: Poland is generally for software patents or against them?
IIRC, Poland has been against it for some time. But that's another topic that's been well discussed here.
