New Nvidia Drivers 3/11/05

Just was at the Nvidia site and thought y'all would be interested to know they have the new drivers up if you didn't already know. There have been several problems associated with the "6629" driver, especially with some MX cards. I've not installed it yet so I don't know how it will perform.

Nice, I've been thinking about going back to nVidia, since I went to the dark side, I've been having some problems with my ATI TV functions .

I don't really like the MX gpu's, the performance isn't as good.

Damn! No good! After installing I can't get X with the MX 4000 Plus. Even when I re-edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf back to "nv" instead of "nvidia" I still can't get a screen! I get:

Code:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting
I've been using kernel 2.6.10 but even when I revert back to the 2.4 kernel, I still can't get a Window!

I've seen online where others have gotten this same error with the MX 4000 under the 6626 driver . Is this MX 4000 just a piece of crap and I need to take it back for a refund?? I never had these problems with my Ti 4200 SE.

Any ideas?

I'm definately taking this MX back. I decided to try installing the Nvidia driver again with the drivers released today. Everything went smoothly and I no longer have the above mentioned error. Here's glxgears on the same box...

Code:
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
767 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.400 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 153.200 FPS
Pretty crappy huh!

Here is glxgears with my old GeForce Ti 4200 se. Everything else is the same...

Code:
2266 frames in 5.0 seconds = 453.200 FPS
2276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.200 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.200 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.200 FPS
2277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.400 FPS
2274 frames in 5.0 seconds = 454.800 FPS
I'm taking the MX back...

I'm gonna buy a new Nvidia card and would like to buy the best card I can for gaming. I checked out the xf5200 that benjamin20 uses and it looks impressive. Any other suggestions?
