Maybe they should put a forum on the site geared toward linux pc building, it seems like alot of people are into this. There may be some here that would be intrested in building their own rig that we could help. I dont know, just a thought. I would hate to see someone buy a brand name and pay the extra $100- $150 to microsoft for the os, just to hose it and install linux.

i see it like this. you can build a car or you can buy one. now for usage buying is fine but you get more satisfaction out of building tweeking and customizing. because a larthargic activity. its not really about elitism or Noobism just a relaxing keep my hands busy kind of activity. the Remote Control planes the other way i do this. i build them from the raw materials cover them put an engine on them fly them. its the same as building computers you have to know the basics then you learn stuff as you go. i really have alot of hobbies but i feel all of them are worth while.

to answer the lap top thing
you can buy stuff for laptops off ebay or get an old 533 lap top or somthing and upgrade it but laptops you are better off buying from a store

    I am a pewterholic

I bought my first computer in 93 for university and have been building my own ever since... This is my current setup:

I have a main server in the house that serves many purposes:
    RH FC3 on
    Pentium 2 350MHz
    128 MB RAM
    200+20 GB of Storage
    ATI AIW128

It runs as a web/ftp/samba server and the firewall/router for the house.

The desktop system I have is pretty old as well.
    WIN XP on
    Pentium 3 1GHz
    512MB RAM
    80+60 GB of Storage
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

However, soon the desktop hardware will get transplanted to the server and all will be well in techtown. I am being forced to do this because the current server is too old to install WIFI and act as an AP.

In addition to these two workhorses, I have a P4 2.2GHz thinkpad and a modified XBOX as a HTPC.

    Later.
