hello and welcome to linux forums. I don't know of a specific book which will help, but google is your best friend along with us at these forums. However, most libraries / collages have good books about linux and the basics, but of the top of my head, i can't seem to remember their names.
Stay away from Linux For Dummies it is

Why is linux for dummies evil? Well besides being a grave yard (some posts on the main page are 2 years old)

what i meant was linux for dummies is pretty much useless in my opinion. The way I learned the basics of linux was by trial and error (the good old days) and ith a big fat book called Mastering Linux cost me $80 and came with Red Hat 7. I used this book to learn the fundamentals of linux and I still use it as a reference guide today.
But many good tutorials and hints can be found by the eternal search engine google. and http://groups.google.com.au/groups?h...r=&group=linux is also helpful

I have been using Linux for just over 6 months. I will probably be a newb for a long time.(kind of an oxymoron, I know).
As soon as I think I have an aspect of Linux down pretty good, something else shows up to show me how little I know about that subject.
I haven't read Oreilly's book yet, but alot of people on here say it is pretty good.

I bought Linux for Dummies awhile ago. It came with FC1.
I don't think it is evil, just worthless.
I paid $30 for it, OK, maybe it is evil.
uke: Linux for Dummies.
I was wondering if I was ever going to have a use for that Emoticon. How to know if you are a geek.
