In my opinion the best prices and service can be found at www.monarchcomputer.com
they make it really easy, and they'll even assemble the system for $50 if you don't want to do it yourself. Also, I would go with AMD over pentium if I were you. The components are cheaper, and just as fast.

Have to watch the website ranking and the number of replies.

My personal best experiences with on-line shopping have been with Newegg than ZipZoomFly in that order but when I find something that works I tend to stick with it so I haven't done a lot of shopping around. I find building your own to be a great way to get to know more about your boxes innards and to be less afraid. Too many people are afraid of their computers and think they lack the know how to fix or work with them.

Here's another vote for NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com
My local CompUSA retail store actually went out of business a few months ago, but it didn't really matter since I always thought their prices were a little high, anyway.

i like www.computernyc.com great online, but you can always bargain with them if you go directly to the store, very low markup and free assembly and testing
Operating System: GNU Emacs
