Hmmm... not sure, but my guess is he wouldn't tell you. He's very careful not to bad-mouth other operating systems, and I'd think he'd probably be careful not to show any favortism to any certain distro.

Only one way to know for sure, though!

I personally don't think it matters a whole lot what he's using, but it's most likely YellowDog Linux or some other distribution that's been ported to PPC like SCO mentioned above. Linus purposely doesn't say what distribution he uses, so there's not really a way of finding out, and it doesn't really mean that the distribution he uses is superior in any way.

By the way, he definitely is not using Mac OS X, as mentioned in this article.

just because he has made an operating system does not mean he can make a new one whenever his mood changes (unless it never does change...) I would imagine he uses a more stable distro which is esy to modify. He prob needs his pc almost every day so it has to be able to stand up to modification etc

It was meant as a figure of speech. You know like some people change their desktops based on their mood. All I was trying to say is that he probably uses an almalgamation of few distros which he created and can change according to his whim.

Whoa, I thought IBM now makes all the Apple processors because Motorola and Apple parted ways. Am I seriously mistaken?

You are infact correct, IBM does make the processors for Apple. PPC is an IBM processor design, and motorola had nothing to do with it.
