Have them pay when they need that stuff
I think I'm gonna start a little buisness fixing people's computers. If they aren't the "I want to read my email and go" people then I'd install Fedora.

Re: The "windows is crap" thread
My opinion is that the majority of the people who responded to RPG_Gamer's thread were out of line. Read the manner in which he phrased his question, then read the hostility that he got in return. Is this how linux advocates should go about promoting the OS? He raised a couple of points that could be refuted with further debate, but that wasn't enough - people had to throw in mocking/condescending sarcasm.

Anyway, on to my Win v Lin views. Undeniably, Windows sucks for all of us intelligent computer users. But what percentage of the population knows what the heck they're doing with a computer anyway? If they don't have the mentality and enough basic experience to search for answers on their own, then they're probably not going to appreciate Linux and our time shouldn't be wasted on them - unless you're really willing to see it through and walk them through everything.\"Nifty News Fifty: When news breaks, we give you the pieces.\" - Sluggy Freelance

Re: The "windows is crap" thread
Pro Windows posts in any Linux forums are either done by idiots or trolls.

EXACTLY my point. Thank you ...
How could you post something like that and _NOT_ expect a flame war to ensue. It was a perfect example of trolling. Too bad the thread was locked before i had a chance to unload - but the line-up to rebuff that BS was so long i couldn't get in there

I really get the feeling that rather than running to play catch up on desktop as GNU/linux/xorg etc have done in the past - I really think that what we are going to see is a complementary blend of completely configurable OS with completely self running OS. On one hand we can get down to the lowest level to tune and tweak and on te other a system that will make decisions for joe-soap user.
OSes like Mandriva are among the easier to install of all on the market, though most users will never want to do this anyway. But as far as things have come there are still elements that confuse non-enthusiasts. I do think we'll get to a point where linux will dominate. If nothing else it'll be price, availability and upcoming DRM in other OSes. Sure we'll have everone running linux on AMD64s!

windows isnt so bad. but neither was hitler or mussolini if you look at it that way. If your new to computers WinXP is the way to go. but thats because both of you have the fact that you suck in common.
the Linux/unix sorce code was built on the incentive of a strong, fast, reliable networking machine for a low or no price, while Windows was build pretty much for the sole purpose of $ (m$). Microsoft is even prepared (and have done several times) to release an unfinished product for 400$ and then make additional fees for patches and security (as instances with Millenium Edition and Win XP) also, with their new "flawless" NT operating systems (Win XP, 2003, Longohrn) are huge memory leaks, meaning that the longer you leave the computer on, the slower it goes. best of all, with the new WinUpDate 6 coming out (soon to e called Microsoft Update) if you modify certain system files, it reverts it back, and if you tamper with the source codes or the Explorer/kernel, your system will just lock up. I Hate Windows. (unfortunetly if have to use it though for my internet, since i cant find a driver for my wireless card)
the only things that ive seen ms been linux in is
1)user friendliness
2)UI
3)popular sovergnty (however you spell it)
4)driver database (see #3)
5)full of Bull$hit

I hope you can find a driver for your wireless card soon!

Is that a joke, you being in favour of Windows, Hitler and Mussolini or a shot at Windows? I don't get you.

Take My Mum For Example
or should i rephrase that?
Poor old dear is just getting into compuiters and learning how to use an OS does take any gimp about a year.
Menui layout, special options etc. She`s always getting stuck on e-mails.
This is because you need a certain amount of basic knowledge before even understanding step one of a foolproof step by step guide.
For example i´m still using XP cos i have no idea how to burn my linux disk as an image ISO or whatever in INSTANT DISC software. Absolutely no mention of it in the handbook at all although it obviously has this option.
Is that my fault?
Or is it the whoards of overpaid Nerds?

I mean installing ladies is better than sitting by a cpu for days trying to make it do something it never could or will do.
But slappers are just for Christmas.
