I'd be interested to see how well they install and run. Someone care to post a mini-review?

I'd like to know how to use the installer with xorg. It says that there is a "customize" option that has the option, but it just isn't there. (It also shows screens of it in the pretty MIA gui installer.)

Use Save as..it's a shell script probably.

then run it in a terminal:

    # sh ati_driver_filename_here

I keep getting xfreeDRI errors and really low fps on glxgears, and errors on fgl_glxgears. I think it's because it keeps trying to install the Xfree version for some reason.

Quick question (sorry if it's a little off topic). I've considered buying an ATI graphics card (just for a change). Probably the 9600 or 9800. Im really not interested in the 3d stuff (Ill continue to use windows for games) all I want is to be able to run my desktop at 1280x1024 @ 16/24/32 colour depth.

With nvidia I can simply use the nv driver and the 2d works fine. Is there an ATI equivalent that would be just as easy (i.e. dont have to re-compile kernel, install drivers etc.)

I have X-Org 6.8.2 with kernel 2.6.11-10 on Arch Linux (current)
Ubuntu Jaunty :: Arch Linux (current) :: Acer Aspire 1692WMLi

I believe the open-source DRI or radeon driver will work just fine for that. If nothing else, the VESA driver works with anything.
