Telecom companies are just as good of an example of "corporate evil" as Microsoft. (probably more so)

The bill would prevent state or local governments from providing “any telecommunications service, information service or cable service” anywhere a corporation offers a similar service.
Maybe I am being dim-witted here, but I don't see the problem here.
I don't think I want my local government providing services such as these.

They have enough to do without getting into the private enterprise arena.

I don't know much about the U.S. political system but that's
a federal law being proposed , right ? Why is there a need for
such a federal law ? If you don't want your local government
providing these services couldn't you send a letter to your governor
or something ? Or vote for a governor who promises not to provide
these services ? But why have such a choice being forced
from outside ?

And of course it doesn't say that local governments have no
right to provide these services , just that they must not provide
them if some corporation does

Actually it sounds so outrageous that it makes me wonder
how accurate that site is.

it is akin to saying that government could not provide medical care insurance to people if an insurance company offers to cover people in a particular area...no more welfare.

No , trying to control the market is the first step to socialism/communism
and this is what this law attempts to do.
