How does advertising work here ?

I've noticed that often the advertisements at the bottom of the page
contain similar words as the page itself ! For example there is this
thread which mentions Greek mythology and the ads at the bottom
    mentioned Greek stuff !

Does anyone know how this sort of thing works ? It's quite impressive.

They are linked to key words on the web page. That targets likely advertising to the likely audience.

Their ads are retarded. I once made a post about how much OpenServer sucks and it displayed and ad with the title "We Sell SCO OpenServer 6". They also have a chronic tendency to link to Microsoft's "Get the FUD" ad campaign page.

It's called contextual advertising. The idea is the ad's on the page are automatically targetted to match the theme of page, for example if you have a page with a review of Redhat Linux, the ad's shown might be places where you could purchase a copy of Redhat.

you may find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...s/default.mspx

I believe their argument (sometimes drawn from companies who they paid to conduct surveys in their behalf), basically boils down to employing Linux certified staff is slightly more expensive than employing someone who has an MCSE.
