Tolkien's original intent was for The Lord of the Rings to be SIX books. He wrote it that way, and the publisher essentially left it that way--each of the three books is split into two "books", you may notice.
You'll note that I said regardless of Tolkien's original intent. I couldn't care less. Other than the Hobbit, all the books were still quite boring to me personally.
Yes, but as long as we're splitting geeky hairs, then we have to be sufficiently geeky about it. The Lord of the Rings was published as six "books" plus an appendix in three "volumes". Crack open your old copies of the books, you'll see the six books are unceremoniously titled "Book I", "Book II", "Book III", "Book IV", "Book V", and "Book VI".

But of course, you have to be really really geeky to split these hairs.

Too bad about Jane Fonda--Babarella was an entertaining flick.
Oh, man: Tunnel Vision, Groove Tube & Kentuky Fried Movie deserve mention.
Hmmm, High Noon, Cat Ballou and the man with no name spagetti westerns; how about those cheesy Hammer films?

I'd better stop; my brain is about to explode!

I live only 20 minutes away from the Two Towers. Check out this link and scroll down a bit.

I also drink in The Ivy Bush sometimes. Was that mentioned in LOTR? Tolkien geeks please help ... The man himself used to drink there.

Another Coen Brothers fan! I love those films also, especially, "O Brother Where Art Thou," or could you guess? By them, "Blood Simple" and "Fargo" were terrific as well.

But if you wanted to be really geeky, Tolkein always saw it as one novel and not a trilogy
