    Avi to Dvd?!?

    Hey folks.

I gues this question maby asked about a 100 times but searching for it left me no results.

In windows uke: i used winavi to convert my divx mpeg avi and all those sort of files to dvd format (not mpeg) but the real dvd format. And sinds i just got from windows to Linux i refuse to use Windows ever again!!!

Now ie been searching the web for about an hour and couldt find an app that does that for me.
And i bet anyone here does this all the time so.
    Here the big question.
Does anyone know about an Linux app that does that for me?
    Thanks in advance.

Don't be so close minded, You'll probably have to use windows again, but Don't give up on linux!

When you convert an avi to dvd format, can you burn cd-rs (multiple instances) and have them work In DvD players? I would really like to do that, to back up my cd's.

Is is command line, but one of the very easist ways to convert and author dvd's is to use the tovid suite. go to www.tovid.sourceforge.net

Personally I use ffmpeg ( http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/index.php ). If you need any specifc help with either of these please ask.

There are so many options, you can use qdvdauthor to make fancy dvd menus. You would do well to have mplayer, mjpegtools, ffmpeg, vcdimager, dvdauthor, ImageMagick, SoX and transcode installed on your system

By the way if you go with ffmpeg then don't download the latest stable version, download the latest CVS version instead.
