I don't know about 5 days but I read this somewhere....

A person will die from total lack of sleep sooner than from starvation. Death will occur about 10 days without sleep, while starvation takes a few weeks.

Yeah it's a bit of useless information, but there ya go

People will go insane or pass out way before death.

Without the aid of drugs, anyways.

I've been up for 4 days before. But that was pretty extreme.

I usually get 7-8 hours sleep and go to bed at 10 pm or 11 pm and get up at 6 am on the weekdays and I go to sleep/pass out drunk usually whenever on the weekends.

The most I've ever been up was 2 and a half days straight with nothing keeping me going. The only thing that seemed scary was trying not to drive off the cliff on Highway 1 in California, driving past Big Sur and heading towards Monterey, and it didn't help at all with my friend in the passenger seat passed out snoring...I hate that.
