As asked before, who determines which is more user friendly? I think there are both generally user friendly. The thing is with Linux there are many different distros for different types of users, whereas there is only one windows (I say this loosely – XP, longhorn, server). Now on user friendliness – if two absolute newbies sat down in front of two computers, one with Linux and one with windows and learned the os from scratch, I am sure none would complain about user friendliness.

My opinion is that, most people who complain about the unfriendliness of Linux are usually from a windows environment, and have grown accustomed to the windows way of doing things. The windows way and the Linux way is just different and not one being more user friendly than the other.

Many new Linux users would like Linux to be more like windows, but I think Linux should remain what it is – Linux.
i agree whole-heartedly with this. after all, the reason i switched to linux is because it ISN'T windows. i don't like windows and i don't like the way it works. most people say linux isn't user-friendly because it isn't windows i will agree. (one review complained about the orientation of the OK/Cancel buttons). if linux became windows i would stop using and consider switching to something like BSD and learn THAT just so i don't have to use windows. [/rant]
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

[quote]Windows XP SP2 has one-half the number of critical vulnerabilities[\quote]

So....what? You have to take the trailer off the Mack truck before you can drive it through the security holes now?

I really need to dump Winblows.....

I believe MS could be more secure if they created user systems w/ a User account for a regular user rather than Admin. Using GPO's and security templates also helps. There's ways to lock it down but it defaults w/ to many things open initially. You have to read a lot of material to finally be confident it is locked down as much as it can be. Whereas linux comes more secure but still needs to be locked down further.

MS is a group of profiteering gluttons stealing others ideas. They got more popular because they were easier to use w/o the need for a bachelors in computer science.

Virus'. It's smart business. Just another avenue they can make a ton of revenue when you don't care about your customer. Making ignorant home users pay to keep their ocmputer files from being whiped out. m$. I bet they use a fraction of that money to FUD linux. Afterall, I've seen virus' protection software for a long time that detects virus' and kills them.
