Linux stable? ... then Windows 3.0 beta was rock solid

    Dear Friends,

Do not get me wrong. I love Linux and want to stick with it because of open licensing and other reasons, however, I am totally bemused by the claims that it is stable.

I gave up on SuSE Linux 7 because it was highly unstable and ran as slow as molases. Years later with a machine 20 times as powerful, I have tried SuSE Linux 9 and 10. It runs fast, but is still unstable.

The OS crashes whenever sound is activated and more and more it crashes on reboot. 3 out of 4 times it crashes within 10 seconds of booting KDE. Interestingly enough, my old machine with a completely different type of sound hardware also crashed when sound was activated.

I have reinstalled the OS. I have searched the forums. I have bought numerous books, but nowhere have I found a solution.

If you have an approach to these problems, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Joe

If you have a specific question about how to get SuSE working on your machine, create a thread in the SuSE section of the forum and post your specific hardware and issues. We'll do our best to help you out. As this is a very old thread and this line of conversation will not draw much positive response, I'm closing it.
