I'm really not trying to be a grump here, but I don't quite understand why people seem to want to put Linux on every device imaginable for no other reason than they can. I like Linux as much as the next person on my computer but that doesn't mean I want it on every device I own. My DS plays games just fine and I see no reason to screw with the firmware. But then, perhaps that's the key difference between me and these folks. Haha.

It seems suicidal questioning a moderator but isn't the DS a computer?

But in all seriousness, there isn't a need to put Linux on every possible. DS' are for games (though the delay of Mario Kart really puts this down) rather than whatever people would do with Linux on their DS? Nethack?

Saw this ages ago on hackaday.com, you guys really should check the site out - it's quite interesting. They made a little keyboard for it not too long ago too.

There is no need for there to be a Linux distro on the DS, but still it keeps a bunch of programers happy, and it gives is the user choice.... though I doubt I'd go out to buy a DS just to run linux.

I agree there's no point. It is some nice publicity for an OS that relies on word of mouth mostly though, and is a testament to it's portability...
