I would like to see SuSE make their development process more open, but I'm not so sure that a Fedora-style model would be the right way for them to go as a company. SuSE has been putting out some very nice products for quite a while now with the development model they use and I don't see them changing it anytime soon.
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.

I don't have a problem with them having a closed process around SUSE. I mean, they have devoted developers that work on it, right? How is that any different than any other open distro? Just because you can't have some people hoping in and out at their own whim?

Personally, I think the say SUSE does things grants more accountability to the distro as a whole, and I like that. Granted, I have no desire to fiddle with the source or add anything to it, so for me, it is a moot point.

SUSE always seems to have a solid product and adding more hands to the pot will likely not make much of a difference. They have a model that works...

I think that whatever works for Suse development should remain that way. They continue to make an incredible distribution and for me, I have no desire to get directly invovled in development.

I kind of like what others are saying.
I like Suse just the way it is. Put out the latest and greatest, and if people want it right away, they should give out some money.
And it wouldn't bother me one bit if more distros charged money for us to have the latest and greatest.

As long as it is still open source.
