why is apple always seen as microsofts biggest competator? linux wipes the floor with apple i user base and linux's userbase is a much more inteligant group if you ask me. seriously, why does every hardware and software manufacturer go out of there way to make a apple versoin when they dont even concider linux. go to the store and look at usb flash drives. now, we all know that they are all going to work just as equaly on windows, linux, and apple. yet all of them say "for windows xp amd mac" while like mabye two or three will even have the word linux printed somewhere on the package. thats what realy bugs me, the majorIT reviewers never concider linux as anything more than a neato little cool thing to try out and then a week later get board of. none of them see linux as "the future of os's everywhere", just simply as a thing thats there that doesnt realy matter. just because we dont have some company hiring other companies to make a cool little product and then slap our name on it and say it is ours and sell it to the public for 40 billion more time than its worth doesnt mean that we dont exist.

    .... ya.... so there

the reason they don't support linux (in software) is because they assume that we also have windows and will happily boot up in windows to run their product (which is friggin arrogant if you ask me). take the football manager series as an example. it has one of the best communities anywhere. there are many fans who go out and scout local players for sports interactive and are always active in the forums submitting bug reports and suggesting improvements for future versions. however, whenever the subject of linux comes up, SI say that because all the FM fans run windows or mac (as well as linux) there is no additional profit to be made from making linux versions (regardless of the countless people who say they will buy it). they also say that they "heard" it runs fine under cedega. now i don't know their definition of "fine" but slow, unresponsive and a poor match engine don't match my description of "fine". [/rant]
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

    My policy:
If one manufacturer doesn't support linux, i'll buy similar device frome someone who does (of cource).
If none of them supports linux, well... I didn't actually needed that anyway.

I don't think that's the reason. Have you ever thought about what "support Linux" really means? If they say that they "support" Linux, it will mean that they take responsibility for people who can't get their product to work under Linux. As long as those customers are using standard Fedora Core or similar, that just might be feasible, but what about the gazillion other distributions? It would be hard enough just to support FC, RHEL, SuSE, Mdk, Ubuntu, Debian, JDS and NDL, but what about people who compile their own kernels? What about a heavily patched Gentoo system? Fedora Core with SuSE, Mdk and Livna packages installed? LFS?

Linux is just too diverse to be supported, if you ask me. That's probably also the reason why the open source community works so well: We don't give warranties or guaranteed function. Linux isn't a platform. The diversity of Linux is both its greatest advantage and its greatest downfall.

However harsh that may be to accept, I don't really think that companies cannot be blamed for not "supporting" Linux. However, there are, of course, those that don't even try to write drivers or programs, and that's no good. For me, it would be more than OK if companies would write drivers and programs and then let the distro vendors (or individuals) make them work on their particular systems. That is, just like the open source community, don't give any warranties.
